The Complete Retirement Planner (TCRP)
Regardless of your net worth or stage of life, creating a written financial plan is a crucial step in achieving long-term financial security.
Every respected source on financial planning best practices will tell you this, yet, ~80% of households still have no such plan.
That's why The Complete Retirement Planner (TCRP) was created.
TCRP allows anyone to easily create an individualized, comprehensive financial plan for both pre- and post-retirement.
Based on the same financial planning principles used by professional advisers, it provides a detailed year by year roadmap of your financial future.
Clearly see the amount of savings needed for a desired retirement age, the impact of claiming Social Security benefits at different ages,
and a necessary annual savings withdrawal rate. TCRP solves these riddles for you so that you can plan for retirement with confidence.

A Powerful Retirement Planning Tool
The dynamic features of The Complete Retirement Planner (TCRP)
integrate the essential factors needed for a reliable financial plan:
variable income and expenses, Social Security claiming ages, RMD's,
healthcare costs, savings distributions, and, of course, tax liability.
The ability to quickly customize, or stress-test your plan as desired
provides additional confidence in your total retirement strategy.
TCRP is highly beneficial for both pre- and post-retirement planning,
and provides the most individualized results possible.
How Does Our Retirement Software Work?
The Complete Retirement Planner (TCRP) provides a precise,
year-by-year forecast of your income, expenses, taxes, RMD's,
distributions, and savings based solely on your personal information,
not on common benchmarks, rules-of thumb, or probability %'s.
The result is a detailed, eye-opening picture of your financial future
providing the most accurate projection possible.
- Enter multiple income sources (e.g., wages, Social Security,
pensions, annuities, non-taxable) by spouse, by year. - Annual income is compared to expenses (which include taxes),
with excess income being saved, or needed distributions calculated. - Considerable flexibility allows you to run "what-if" scenarios, plan for one-time events, and make all desired adjustments quickly and easily.
- Clearly see how much you may be able to save before retirement,
and how long your savings may last during retirement.

Why Choose Our Retirement Planner?
For your security, all information remains completely within your control.
The Complete Retirement Planner is a secure, downloadable Excel tool
that is saved directly to your computer, ensuring complete privacy.
Unlike online software, no information is saved to the cloud, or linked to outside sources, so all of your financial planning data is always secure.
Please Note - a full (paid) version of Excel (2016 or later) is required.
TCRP will work on both PCs and Macs, but it will not work with the
free online version of Excel, or other Excel "apps" (e.g., Numbers,
Google Sheets, LibreOffice) as they do not support all Excel functions.
TCRP is updated each January with the latest tax codes and new features, and existing users always have the option to upgrade for only $12.99.
Why Is It Called The "Complete" Retirement Planner?
TCRP is a unique retirement planning tool that incorporates technical and educational features that simply won't be found elsewhere.
• Interview style questions, with explanatory notes, easily guide you through the set-up, providing an unparalleled ease of use.
• Clear educational notes on complex topics (e.g., Medicare costs, tax laws, Social Security benefits) help to inform you.
• Flexibility in entering variable income, expenses, investment returns, savings, and one time events allows for individual needs.
• Critical variables that are often ignored by other planning tools, but have a big impact on results, are accounted for (listed below).
• A high level of clarity and detail in the results provides transparency into how it all works from start to finish, making it truly "complete".
The following combination of features are what set TCRP apart from all other retirement planning tools:
Comprehensive Features
Specific Income and Savings Tracking
- Enter multiple sources of annual income (e.g., wages, pensions, annuities, non-taxable) by spouse, by year, with an optional inflation adjustment.
- Model Social Security benefits using your expected FRA (Full Retirement Age) benefit and desired claiming age, or current benefit if already claimed.
Spousal benefits, Survivor benefits, and annual Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA's) are automatically calculated. - Designate annual withdrawal amounts for Inherited IRA's, with after-tax amounts being added to savings automatically.
- Benefit from Non-Retirement cash, short-term, and long-term savings buckets, each with their own interest/return rates for before and after retirement.
- Plan Retirement savings (401k/IRA's) with annual contributions, employer contributions, and expected annual return rates.
The flexibility to vary annual investment return rates provides far more accurate results than using the same rate for all years! - Include an HSA balance, yearly contributions, an expected investment return rate, and the age at which you would like HSA distributions to begin.
Detailed Expenses and Tax Liability
- Itemize current and future expenses, and how those amounts may change over different time frames.
Eligible HSA expenses are paid directly from HSA savings starting at each spouse's desired age. - Utilize separate General inflation and Health Care inflation rates for greater accuracy.
The General rate applies to most expenses, but not to fixed expenses (e.g., mortgage principal/interest, loans, extra mortgage payments),
while the Health Care rate applies to designated health care expenses that historically experience higher inflation than core expenses.
This detail is significant and provides greater accuracy. No other planning tool does this, and it has a huge effect on results. - Account for Mortgage amounts, mortgage terms, interest rates, and property taxes for up to three current or future properties.
Annual tax deductions for mortgage interest and property taxes are calculated automatically.
Specify if a mortgage will be paid off early, or a property sold, to automatically adjust your total expenses and tax deductions from that year forward. - Federal tax is calculated by year, using the proper tax codes for income, distributions, and Social Security, not just a single tax rate for all income types.
An effective rate for State income tax may be entered, along with optional Federal tax deductions for State income/sales tax, charity, and medical costs.
Seeing the complete picture of your tax liability is crucial, as taxes can have a significant impact on how long your savings may last.
Retirement Age and Savings Distributions Flexibility
- Distributions from retirement savings are calculated automatically, by spouse, by year, to account for any expenses not paid by income.
Distributions include the amount needed for expenses and the tax liability on the distribution. This is an essential point that other planning tools ignore. - Choose the age to start Retirement savings distributions (starting at age 55) to help with early retirement, or to delay distributions up to RMD age.
- Efficient Order Of Funds Used - Income is used first, then proportional amounts of non-retirement and taxable 401k/IRA savings (based on balances),
and, finally, Roth 401k/IRA's. Cash equal to 2 years future expenses (minus income for those years) is held in reserve to help maintain liquidity.
Savings last longer, and tax liability is less, than if only one savings type was exhausted at a time (as other planning tools do!). - If income exceeds expenses, customize the amount of excess income to save from 25% (to plan conservatively) up to 95% (to save as much as possible).
Many well-known wealth management firm planning tools just ignore excess income! Ouch!
Why 95% and not 100%? Because it's not reasonable (or advisable) to expect anyone to save every penny of excess income, every year, for decades.
Reliable financial plans should always have a small margin of error built in! - Required Minimum Distributions (RMD's) are calculated automatically, by spouse, using the I.R.S. divisor schedule.
For any year that RMD's are greater than actual need, 95% of the excess is automatically saved, and added to non-retirement savings. - Model Roth Conversions and Qualified Charitable Donations (QCD's), with their tax liability automatically accounted for.
Health Care and Life Expectancy Planning
- Be prepared for a spouse's passing by entering a life expectancy age for either spouse. The surviving spouse's tax filing status will change to "Single",
and their Social Security Survivor benefit will calculate automatically. It is important to be aware of the impact this may have on your long-term results. - Help with estimating health care costs in retirement, including an automatic alert if you may be affected by IRMAA (possibly causing higher Medicare costs).
Scenario Planning and One-Time Events
- Simulate "what-if" scenarios by using One-Time Events for major life changes, significant or unexpected expenses, or possible windfalls.
- Easily model Sequence of Returns Risk (crucial for when savings distributions start) by entering varying investment return rates for retirement years.
Most planning tools default to using the same rate of return for every year, which can easily produce unrealistic and misleading results.
TCRP offers full control over your financial future - showing where you are headed, what your options may be, and how long your retirement savings may last.
